The Solar Car Challenge 2008 finals are taking place at Nissan on Friday 11th July, 10-2.30pm. The finals will be attended by primary pupils from across the region who will be racing their solar cars and having their radical deisgns judged by a panel of experts. Teesside One World Centre is organizing a FREE Twilight Workshop: 'Introduction to Fairtrade Schools' Wednesday 9th July 2008 from 4 until 5.45pm.

The workshop is appropriate for school staff or community supporters who want to learn about

* the requirements of the Fairtrade School Scheme;

* the opportunities for learning about world trade and fair trade in the school curriculum;

* the support available from Teesside One World Centre and One World Network North East;

* resources to support Fairtrade.

It will be possible for participants to look at other resources available at Teesside One World Centre before and after the workshop. A flier for the event can be downloaded here.

A tender to develop and manage the Sustainable Schools website has been released. The deadline for bids is Friday 4th July at 5pm. More information is available from here.

Thankyou to everyone who attended to Researcxh and Evaluation session from across the region. The findings of the research on local authority support and structures for Sustainable Schools in the region will be circulated after the Board meetiong at the end of this month.

The Climate Change Schools Project received their new electric Smart car last week which will be powered by the wind turbine at the Science Learning Centre in Durham, but it can be plugged in and charged anywhere with a 3 pin plug. I had a test drive, it felt a little strange initially but great fun and another useful learning tool to discuss the issues of climate change/carbon emissions/ future transportation etc.
