Having just returned from the seminar below I would recommend to those of us working with schools on sustainability issues to take a look at the Change4Life website and potentially register as a local supporter. Many of its aims reflect the issues in Sustainable Schools particularly around food & drink, school grounds, wellbeing and inclusion & participation.

Does your work with children, young people have a role in supporting them to make healthier choices? If it does, sign up for your Regional Change4Life seminar now. As a Change4Life partner and a key stakeholder, The seminars will give you ideas on how to help children, young people and families get more active and eat more healthily. They will enable you to network with other local supporters and those leading strategic work. Change4Life Local Supporters* are vital in communicating how to overcome these barriers - and to help them to do this, lots of bright and colourful toolkits have been created, including Breakfast4Life, Walk4Life, Bike4Life, Swim4Life, Play4Life and Dance4Life. * A Local Supporter is a local individual or organisation already working with children, young people and families in a position to share the Change4Life message, including anyone working in education or health care, local businesses and charities, and those in the voluntary sector. The Board of the North East Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Schools (NESPSS) and The Government Office for the North East (GO-NE) would like to invite you to a networking session and AGM on Monday 19th October (4pm - 7pm) at The CastleGate, Melbourne Street, Newcastle, NE1 2JQ. The Board is keen to broaden the reach of NESPSS, so if you have officers or elected members, who are engaged with supporting schools across the broader sustainability agenda, (e.g. wellbeing; school buildings; school improvement; food; carbon management, etc), the Board is keen for those to attend. Working in partnership across sectors and across local authority services is key to enhancing support for Sustainable Schools activity.

Garden Organic have produced a new Growing Cards resource pack for schools which can be downloaded from the website in total or for selected vegetables and fruit for the Food for Life partnership.

DCSF have launched two guides to support Local Authorities to map and enhance the support they offer for Sustainable Schools. The S3+ self evaluation tool for local authorities helps map existing practice. The second guide Delivering Sustainable Communities through Sustainable Schools highlights opportunties for Sustainable Schools to support wider Sustainable Communities aims for local authorities.
