The Northern Sustainable Schools Conference 'Every Child's Future Matters' is now open to bookings via Local Authority Sustainable School Lead Officers.(DON'T BOOK DIRECTLY, IT MUST BE THROUGH YOUR LA) Click here to download the flyer. NPower have developed a new KS2 programme for schools called Climate Cops. The website is www.climatecops.com. Its a dynamic looking website. Its being officially launched in Newcastle on 6th December.

Encams are offering grants to schools again through their links with Curry's and their Switched on Communities Scheme. Two more rounds are available and schools can apply for up to £5000 for projects linked to energy and water. Click here for more information.

In case you didn't know the region has been successful in its bid to the United Nations to become a Regional Centre of Expertise for ESD. The bid lead was by IRES from Newcastle University. NESPSS was involved in the development of the bid and has been invited to join the management group to develop the initiative. Further details are available from:

The next meeting of the Eco-Schools Sub Partnership will take place on Thursday 8th November (10.30-12.30) at The EWE Centre. The main presentation will be from Dr Krista McKinsey who will be highlighting the plans for the Climate Change Schools Project in the region.

CABE Education Grants will fund schools up to £1500 to develop teaching and learning linked to school grounds, buildings and learning outside the classroom; http://cabe.org.uk/educationgrants

The Ashden Awards are looking for schools working on Sustainable Energy projects, first prize is £15,000, second is £5,000. Not to be sniffed at; http://www.ashdenawards.org/school_award

Eco-Schools has teamed up with the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) and WWF-UK to offer an exciting opportunity to Eco-Schools in England. The NCSL is looking for 36 inspirational school leaders from around the country to share in £180,000 of grant money. The Leaders, up to four in each region, will receive £5,000 each as part of a programme to support the National Sustainable Schools Framework in the region.

'Creating a Carbon-Neutral School' National Conference. In conjunction with E.ON, the Home Energy Conservation Association (UK HECA) announces the first Creating a Carbon Neutral School National Conference and Exhibition, this conference should have an appeal to: - Head Teachers, governors, local authorities, architects, developers, etc, in the public, private and voluntary sectors. The conference will be held on 27 November at the Athena, Leicester. Along with plenary session presentations and workshops, there will also be a study tour of the Queens Building at De Montfort University, a best practice example of an educational sustainable building in the city.
