27th April 2009 A new website (Green Flag for Global Development) has been developed highlighting the global dimension aspects of Eco-Schools. The site has been produced by many teachers in the Derby area in conjunction with the Global Education Derby. There are lots of free resources/lesson plans to download from the site.Its worth taking a look at. 2nd April 2009 Teesside One World Centre is organising two events supporting a global dimension. The first is a CPD session for teachers working in special schools on 9th June in Darlington. For more information download the flyer and booking details. The second is a conference on 2nd July in Darlington addressing issues relating to Community Cohesion, Human Rights and Pupil Voice. For more information download the flyer and booking information. 23rd March 2009 The interim evaluation event for the six Pathfinder Corporate Strategy local authorities was held in York last Friday. It was a well attended successful day and the authorities have asked for another 'get-together' session in November this year before the celebration feedback conference in March next year. 23rd March 2009 WWF has launched resources to support the Global Earth Hour which takes place this Saturday 28th March at 8.30pm. Click here for more information. 28th January 2009 Eco-Schools have teamed up with the British Council and Global Gateway to support schools through the process of engaging with a partner school overseas to focus on a sustainability theme. More information is available from: www.eco-schools.org.uk/national-priorities/international-school-award 28th January 2009 Worcestershire County Council is hosting a conference called: Responding to Climate Change through Learning for Sustainability ~ Sharing the experience of a Beacon Authority 10th March 2009, 9.30 - 4.00pm, Bishops Wood Centre, Crossway Green, Worcestershire DY13 9SE The conference will explore how Worcestershire County Council is supporting schools in Worcestershire around the challenge of climate change. This will include an insight into the work that contributed to the County Council receiving Beacon Status for tackling climate change. We would like to share our experience of: - Supporting the development of Sustainable Schools (including Eco Schools) and Learning for Sustainability around a whole school approach - Designing and building a sustainable school - Energy Management in schools - Outdoor and environmental learning. The Growing Schools Programme is holding its second national conference “Get Your Hands Dirty” at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, on the 23rd March 2009. The conference aims to support all teachers from Early Years through to Secondary who are interested in expanding and improving learning outside the classroom in their schools. The day will begin with key note speaker Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools and Learners, Sarah McCarthy-Fry MP. The day will also consist of a market place made up of sector partners as well as a series of workshops which will be run throughout the day. Choices will include Den Building, Art Gene, The Great Plant Hunt and Thinking Walks. The workshops will be facilitated by the education departments of many organisations such as the Royal Horticultural Society, The Botanic Gardens Education Network, Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The conference will open at 9.00 am and finish at 4.30pm with refreshments and a lunch voucher for the restaurant will be provided. The cost is £75 and places are limited to 200.
